06 St Chad's Place London Review
“Excuse me, do you know where St. Chad’s Place is?”
“Yup, you’re on it.”
“Do you know if there’s a bar here?”
“Erm, you’re standing outside it”
So we begin with the aspect of 6 St. Chad's Place that is both an endearing quality and a possible cause of frustration.
Not usually known for my navigational skills (I’m more YTS than GPRS I’m afraid) I was chuffed to help this lass locate 6 St. Chad’s Place. You see it’s down a rather dark, dinghy alley behind the King’s Cross Thameslink. Once you do find it, however, you’ll feel pretty smug.
Smug because you’ll think you deserve an orienteering award but also coz this bar is an awesome find. In an area suffering from a drought of beautiful spaces 6 St. Chad’s Place is oasis-like.
Designed by an architect who was frustrated by the lack of places in the area to get a drink, the bar has been constructed from heat-treated timber and has an incredible high-vaulted glass ceiling. One wall of the bar has a mural of a train station, look carefully and you’ll see hidden panels in the mural that lead to the kitchen, the toilets and so on.
A chrome bar stretches the length of the room and tea-lights line the windowsills on the other side, while retro styled chairs, wooden tables with single gerberas in small vases and comfy low sofas make up the décor.
Prices are very good indeed. A glass of house red (an elegant Eguren Reinares Tinto) cost just £3.75 and Fosters is £2.80 a pint.
Staff are cool (in the nice way not the cold way) with great taste in music (the tunes are their record collections, a mix of funk, hip-hop and ambient).
Custom comes from various office workers in the King’s Cross area, so sharp-suited lawyers mix with trendy fashion designers. The bar gets very crowded on Fridays (when they have live DJs) and don’t try to visit at the weekends as it closes for functions.

“I had a great business lunch at St Chads, the atmosphere was buzzy and the service was firendly and relaxed. The interior of this small warehouse is quite cool I heard that it's owned by a firm of architects nearby. Great food in Kings Cross I highly recommend it.”

“Was coming to London from Manchester and arrived in Kings Cross station, not knowing where to go. Luckily we found St Chads and had such a great night! Staff are really friendly and accomodating and even when I knew were getting drunk and annoying they kept smiling and dealt with us really well! Fit staff too!! always a plus in my books. Will definately come back here next time I'm in London - thanks guys!”

“Well, we have had a few work leaving dos here and they have been very patient and accommodating. One bar man let me sit on the bar and he poured beer into my mouth/all over my top. Hilarious! Great for shenanigans and lots of Scissor Sisters music! My friend's bag caught fire under the table, which was also very funny.
Ha ha!”

“Over priced cocktails, poor service and formica chairs and concrete floor do nothing to make a warm atmosphere.”
