Bibendum London Description
Opened in 1987 by Sir Terence Conran and Paul Hamlyn, with Simon Hopkinson as founding chef, Bibendum was indisputably in the forefront of a modern new wave of restaurants, with its distinctive design and fresh perspective on food and service.
Set in the characteristic former Michelin headquarters in London's South Kensington, award-winning Bibendum restaurant is a feast for more than one of your senses.
Elaborate stained glass windows catch the eye, but it takes some a while to realise that they feature none other than the Michelin Man, the 'Bibendum' who this modern French restaurant is named after. The impressive building in which the restaurant sits dates back to 1909 and has been at the cutting edge of innovation since then. This is also certainly true of the cuisine, which for the past 20 years has drawn on classic French dishes with a British twist. Good quality seasonal ingredients feature heavily and there is a daily changing lunch menu.
Bibendum Oyster Bar is on the ground floor of the Michelin Building, separate to Bibendum restaurant upstairs. The Oyster bar sits in the main foyer with the original floor and wall tiling depicting the great races of the day, serving seafood and cold salads ideal for a light lunch or for an early evening drink. It is also possible to just pop in for a drink in the late afternoon or evening as they hold a full licence.
Bibendum is also available as a unique venue for weddings or events.
