Would you rather…
A) Be enticed by frugal phrases such as ‘£5 Thursdays’ and ‘the beer and curry deal’? OR…
B) Persuade your bank manager to extend your overdraft by a couple of hundy, just for tonight, and then indulge in phrases like ‘rather regal’, ‘suggestively stately’ and ‘my goodness, even MickeyD’s Apple Pies aren’t that hot’?
Would you rather…
A) Stay in and watch “Meet the Stars”, the new Channel 5 celebrity TV show that highlights the glamourous lifestyle of peeps like Welsh warbler Chaz and her Gavboy, the hairless wonder? OR…
B) Go out and spend the entire night not only meeting, but also greeting, ogling and possibly even manhandling, stars like Chaz and Gavboy (although it’s probably not advisable seeing as he does play international rugby)?
Would you rather….
A) Some idle chatter, a packet of soon-to-be-shunned-in-a-public-place Embassy No.5s and a cream-topped pint of John Smiths? OR…
B) Some idle chatter in an old embassy No.5 (Spanish, before they got kicked out; probably by the Belgians next door) and a within-my-price-range Razberri Stolichnaya, Chamboud liqueur, Vanilla, Lemon and Cranberry ‘Berry No. 5’ cocktail?
Would you rather…
A) Reside in a world ruled by the Gods ‘Argos’ and ‘Ikea’? OR…
B) Reside in a world where dark mahogany and plush red velvet are the standard accompaniment to bottles of 1937 Glenfiddich malt whiskey that cost roughly the same as doing a ‘job’ on your local MP (in the region of £31,000, in case you’re wondering)?
Would you rather…
A) Peer through your front room lace curtains, discreetly tutting at the noisy delinquents making a menace of themselves on your Neighbourhood Watch? OR…
B) Get ‘jiggy wid’ the young crowd in a VIP area that requires a blingin’ £500 minimum spend per table on RnB-Fridays and house-heavy Saturdays?
If you picked mainly A, you only have yourself to blame. If on the other hand B was your choice then No.5 Cavendish Square is the venue. The impressive Grade II listed building comprises of three bars, a restaurant, a private dining room, a nightclub, roof terrace and eight boutique hotel suites.
The restaurant is expensive, dazzlingly aristocratic and friend to the nouveau riche. It has the air of dining at the Windsor Castle state rooms with a grand piano, personalised Glenfiddich matchboxes and fresh red roses on every table to match the fine upholstery. It was also the only place I’ve ever eaten where the best view of the building itself was the etching on my plate.
