The world we live in is constantly mutating. It‘s relentless. And thanks to man’s accidental invention - global warming – there’ll soon be no need to drive to the coast on bank holiday Friday. If Mohammed won’t go to the mountain, then the beach will come and replace his back garden instead.
Clearly, sand dunes suddenly appearing in your driveway is not an altogether great idea but if change is inevitable, surely we cannot avoid it (that’s the excuse Leslie Ash uses anyway)?
The Dovedale pub in Battersea was as cool as the polar ice caps and appeared immune to such unforeseen forces. But then ‘change’ finally caught up with it and melted the cool away.
The recent refurbishments have removed the curvaceous centre-piece bar as well as the cozy diner-style booths. Uninspiring lagers are now served where 14th century Trapist wheat ales brewed by badgers once stood. Even the name has been inexplicably displaced by something that would be more suitable on the Maplin Sands in the Thames Estuary. The Gutted would be more appropriate.
In its favour the delightful Ibiza beer garden should keep the smokers coming back after July, if the free wifi isn’t a big enough draw.
Whoever decided to kill the Dovedale probably grew up as one of those kids who sabotaged everyone else’s perfect sandcastles just so they could build a leaky dam.
Kneel to the floor, stretch arms upwards, ask of the heavens “Whhhhyyyyyy??” Otherwise 6 out of 10

“Unfortunately, the inept staff just could not get my booking right for 14 people. I booked about 3 weeks in advance, checked the booking IN PERSON 2 days beforehand, a friend checked the booking IN PERSON also a couple of hours before my party were due to arrive. But would you believe it when we did get there (and 15mins early!!) our table had been allocated to another group. So not on therefore I don't recommend and won't be returning.”

“I thought the Dove dale, now Lighthouse has undergone a fantastic refurb, it is was dull and it ws boring - now it is full of life with quite a serious vibe, at times. The food is much better. Go on the Lighthouse. This pub is wicked and would recommend to all my friends!”

“This pub is totally awesome, the refurb has given what was a pretty dreary pub a new lease of life.
The food is gorgeous, the staff delightful, and a steamy garden to enjoy the summer in. Have definitely had many great nights here.”

“What a great and welcome to change to the Battersea scene. The refurb has given the old dovedale / new lighthouse and fantastic fresh new edge. With importing the fancy canadian chef, the food quality and service have rocketed in the right direction, deliciouse welsh rarebit... Who needs trappist when you have organic cider? I wish this pub was on my doorstep.

“Two friends and I hired the bar for our birthday party with a fancy dress theme of Superheroes and Cartoon Characters. Lucy, the bar manageress was a legend and organised the decoration, Roger the Doorman (manners and a good bloke- these qualities do exist in door staff!), DJ, food (delicious and the chef turned his hand to serving drinks as well) and pretty much everything else. We had about 140 people there and it was a fantastic night- the staff were brilliant and everyone agreed it was a great venue. I would highly reccommend the Dovedale as a party venue or just for a few drinks or for a bite to eat. Shame I live too far away to make it a regular!”

“I realise I'm in the minority here but I was gutted when Bar Room Bar became yet another beige jazz bar serving extremely expensive belgian beer. It does what it says on the packet, I just don't like it. That said, the bar staff did follow my pedantic instructions on how to make a proper white russian without throwing it at me, so there is hope.”
