The Valmont Club London Review
The Valmont Club is featured in these Guides:
Walking down black steps, shrouded by trees, potted plants and even a mini waterfall, you could be forgiven for thinking you’re at some swish holiday resort, rather than West London on a cold March evening. Valmont is a bar and club for private members only and right from the entrance through to the secluded private booths, it’s clear Valmont is keen to emphasis its VIP status. The club has the requisite burly doormen, glam female club hostess with clipboard and busy managers issuing commands through earpieces.
Despite appearances, non-members can still come along to Valmont, they just need to call in advance to check availability for that night. According to manager Carlos, the chances of getting in will depend on "the type of crowd expected that night". Probably best then not to say it's a stag party. In keeping with the Fulham club’s secretive nature exact prices for membership and entry vary with each person.
We started off our evening in one of the five private booths. The entrance to each is hidden by metal beaded curtains, which cover the whole wall. Only the faint outline of light coming from the individual booths gives a clue as to what lies behind. Great fun for a private party but it’s just as well bar staff take drinks orders, given that finding the right booth requires a certain skill or eyesight enhanced by a dedicated diet of carrots – and the use of two non-drinks-carrying hands to feel wall from entrance.
Inside our private booth, sis and I were particularly impressed by the music fader, which allows clubbers to turn the music volume down or up to suit. Carlos says this is great for exclusive meetings. I’m intrigued to find what kind of people conduct meetings in private booths with scatter cushions, velveteen padded walls and arched roof right out of a hareem. They can seat about eight people comfortably and would be great fun with a big group. Like entry into Valmont, the cost of a booth varies depending on booking arrangements but on average they cost £600. Yikes! I could fly to Morocco and back for that. Ex-clu-sive!
With just two of us rattling around our velveteen lair, we decided to venture into the main club. There's a slightly more exclusive area called the neon room with more tables and seating and strip wall lighting panels that flash and change colour to suit the music. Except for the private room (available for hire, with own bar, sound system and white leather interiors) the overall colour theme is black: black shiny walls, black floor and black ceiling. It's all very expensive looking.
For the first couple of hours Valmont has a cocktail bar feel, with birthday parties taking advantage of the space. The drinks menu is extensive and as well as cocktails by the glass, drinkers can order cocktails by the bottle – given the £85 price tag, by a ‘gold plated’ bottle perhaps? Actually it’s a vintage Chambord bottle. Personally, I'm not too bothered if my drink comes served in a plastic beaker, provided it tastes good.
My sister’s ‘Affinity’ was a Bellini-inspired drink made with fresh peach puree, Absolut peach vodka and vanilla liquor, while my white peach mojito royale was topped up with champers. Individual cocktails cost from £8.50 but impressively for a place this swish, a glass of house wine is only a fiver. The bar staff were friendly and fast-serving.
By 11.30 the DJ had taken his place at the booth, the music was at club not bar level and the dance floor was filling up quickly. Playing a mix of commercial House, R ’n’ B and Hip Hop, the DJ threw in an impressive ménage à trois mix: Britney, Kanye and Daft Punk, which seemed to keep up the party atmosphere.
Clientele at The Valmont are definitely of the west London variety; there was a lot of denim and loafers dressing the men and skyscraper heals with flashy frocks for the ladies, but its exclusive in all the right places: the decor and drinks. Visitors feel a bit special but can still let their considerably coiffed hair down. It's true, Valmont isn't edgy and it will never make a London's coolest club list, but it would probably make it onto the shortlist for London’s best club for a bit of swank.

The Valmont Club London Description
As the only club listed in the “GQ” Top 100 list, this stunning 300 capacity nightclub with striking interior design, an impressive cocktail list and a desirable location on the Fulham Road Chelsea, has made it to the number 1 position of our favourite Exclusive Members Clubs in London.
The Valmont Club is located on the site formerly known as Café des Artistes, which used to be a popular 1960’s and 70’s live music venue fraternised by The Rolling Stones and Roger Waters, where performers included David Bowie and Queen. 40 years later, the site – now beautifully restyled courtesy of Lee Broom Design – is still a magnet for the super sexy cool.
The team behind The Valmont Club have clearly recognised the need for a refreshing alternative to the often one-dimensional Chelsea nightlife. The venue, which is split into 4 main areas, is definitively original with juxtaposing subdued colours and soft, comfortable furnishings coupled with bright neon statement signage. The entire venue is adorned with traditional sculptures, paintings, antique furniture, funky Neon lights, black glass and gold beaded curtains. They also have a spectacular bespoke lighting system like no other in London which comes alive as the evening unfolds.
The Valmont Club have also managed to exclusively secure the services of top DJ and music producer Ollie Twist. Expect to hear Pop, Electro, House, Rock and Dance Classics along with some awesome remixes of current club favourites. Ollie Twist has previously held residencies at some of London most exclusive clubs and has also played private events for some of the world’s best known celebrities.
If you and your group enjoy the finer things in life and prefer to party in exclusive VIP surroundings then The Valmont Club’s 60ft sheer black glass-topped bar, banquette seat ing areas separated by gold beaded curtains and their series of private VIP booths with individual music volume control should satisfy your opulent tastes.
Speaking of opulence – the Valmont Club cocktail menu is the epitome of all things lavish – so you won’t find any sparklers or gongs here! Each cocktail (with the exception of the mojito) can be served in a vintage Chambord bottle and customers can choose their glassware from a range including shooters, tall, Martini and Dom Perignon Sniffers (for 2 people). Exclusive London favourites include The White Widow (£10.00 Tall or £85.00 Bottle – served with ½ bottle of Veuve Cliquot) which is a delicious mix of Stoli Vanilla mixed with Lychee juice and sugar, topped with Veuve Cliquot champagne and Chambord. We also love Remy’s Syphon (£85.00, serves 2 people) which is a Remy Martin vsop cocktail mixed with fresh apple juice, cranberry juice, apple liqueur, caramel liqueur and ginger ale, all served in an old fashioned siphon.
The good-looking, well-heeled crowd that the club attracts really adds to the allure of the place making The Valmont Club not only a great place to chill out in style but also our number 1 exclusive member’s club to party until the wee hours. The Valmont Club is open Thurs-Sat 7pm til 3am. For information on membership contact The Valmont Club on 020 7352 6200

“Has to be the best kept secret in Chelsea. First time I've been, but it will not be the last for sure...fantastic vibe and the music was amazing, kept us all dancing right to the end of the night. Staff were good, not rude and the cocktails were really tasty and it was busy in there, but good fun. I will be back this weekend.”
