I have no idea what the last dude was on about. I went to Archangel for the first time a few months ago and have been back 3 or 4 times since. It's the friendliest bar in the whole of Kensington, NOT PRETENTIOUS AT ALL! Infact I think they go a long way to show all their customers that they're not trying to be Amika or 20, they are just a friendly charming bar to have a great cocktail, (especially if you get there in time for half price drinks!) and have a boogie downstairs if you fancy it. When we arrived having booked a table a month ago as a Christmas present for my parents we were told that many of the items on the menu were not available, including the only vegetarian dish. Guess what we were offered as a substitute....turkey!!! Just what we wanted straight after Christmas!! Sadly the staff did not seem to care or offer any apology and we promptly left and had a fantastic meal in Crystal Palace. This place may present itself as a classy restaurant but in all the pomp it forgot about basic customer service!! 2 of us had booked a birthday party and paid a deposit for the upper floor. We had approx 65-85 guest due to attend. A week earlier we got a call explaining that the directors’ friend wants the top section so we have to move downstairs. I agreed, as I was told that we would still have adequate seating and that some champagne will be ‘sorted out’. Suffice to say, that on the night 40% of our guest were standing, spent most of the evening trying to organise seating (moving chairs and tables) for my guests. The champagne bottles turned into 2 bottles of house wine. When I finally started enjoying the evening, 3 friends and I stood in queue to go outside to smoke for 40mins. The bouncer let in (counted) 36 people in and nobody out, by then there was a queue forming behind us. When we did get out, I had barely lit my cigarette and was told to hurry up as there are other people waiting. In general, not a bad place if you’re a non-smoker and expecting less than a party of 10. Then again you could always just go to O’Neills, just around the corner. This is a nice friendly and intimate venue, with cheap drinks, the best in cheesy music and a VERY late license. Its a young crowd and the atmosphere is very chilled, but one thing this place is definately not anymore is gay! There are plenty of cute (straightish) scally lads in there for you to drool over (if that's your thing!), but considering the huge rainbow flag that still hangs outside, its about time this place is reclaimed by the real East-end gay boys & girls! If you want a quiet drink go anytime before 12 midnight - its dead. If you like it a bit more lively go after midnight - people usually start arriving between 12 and 1am. Raj, london 23 Dec 08

We stumbled across this delightfully intimate and elegant little restaurant some months back, and have returned it on several occasions, for drinks, for afternoon tea and for a romantic dinner a deux. The menu, though not extensive, is imaginative but unpretentious; the wines are excellent, and the service extremely gracious and attentive -- and perhaps just a tad eccentric; but that was part of the charm, and not one bit problematical. The decor is strongly reminiscent of little French 'bistrots': stylishly individual but unforced. I'd recommend Ollins to anyone or everyone, for a very pleasant meal or just a drink and a nibble.
